Essential oils can be affected by light. Direct sunlight can heat the essential oil and deteriorate their quality. All our essential oils are bottled in amber glassware and we encourage you to store them in a dry, cool, dark place.

Before opening, our liquid products have a shelf life of approximately 12 months.

No, our products do not contain Palm Oil.

Essential oils can be toxic for pets. Never leave bottles open or in reach of animals. Each pet will differ, so please use caution when diffusing oils around pets.

Some oils that are known to contain phenols which are toxic to cats/dogs include Peppermint oil, Citrus oils (including Lemon oil), Tea Tree oil, Pine oil, Eucalyptus oil, Cinnamon oil and Ylang Ylang oil.

The higher the concentration, the greater the risk. If your pet accidentally ingests any essential oils, contact your veterinarian immediately.

Aroma By Design does not sell reed diffusers because they contain a very high proportion of fragrance to give them a strong aroma. This makes them more likely to cause irritation or allergic reactions on contact with the skin when compared to other products. Imagine what it is doing to your lungs when you breathe it in!

100% Pure Essential Oils

The essential oils we use in our products are 100% pure.

Our sourcing includes essential oils and carrier oils from countries where the plant material grows best both climatically and seasonally.

Yes, however Aroma By Design recommends only exposing children 6 months and older to essential oils.

Our children’s range has the recommended age of use on each product.

Important points to remember when using oils around children:

Diffuse safely

Diluting essential oils in a humidifier or small diffuser is a much safer way to go, though even this may be harmful for kids with asthma or other respiratory illnesses. We also recommend keeping humidifiers in a large, open room, rather than in kids’ bedrooms.

Store oils away from curious hands

Always store your oils away in a safe place out of the reach of children. There is potential harm from ingestion or skin contact in some cases.

Watch for reactions

Keep an eye out for allergic or negative reactions to essential oils. If children develop headaches or just don’t like the smell, stop using the oil. If it is severe such as difficulty breathing, coughing, nausea, vomiting, sleepiness, seizures or loss of consciousness, turn off the diffuser and contact your doctor.

All essential oils should be treated with caution and respect.

Aromatherapy and the use of essential oils can be a great support for an expecting mother, with benefits including pain relief, calming, sleeping, energy and mental grounding. However, there are also some warnings that you should consider before using essential oils in your pregnancy journey.

Aroma By Design recommends using some essential oils during the first trimester of your pregnancy. We recommend avoiding the use of essential oils during the first trimester of pregnancy however if you had difficulties falling pregnant or if you have had a history of complicated pregnancies or miscarriages. We also recommend using essential oils under the supervision of a qualified practitioner. Please ensure any essential oils you are using are 100% essential oils and NOT Fragrant Oils.

Ensure you are diluting essential oils to 1% in a massage blend.

There is some data and evidence that suggests essential oil molecules can cross the placenta and some essential oils in large concentrations may not be healthy for the baby.

You will know immediately if the oil is suitable for you as it will smell obviously wonderful or unpleasant!

Note: essential oil preferences may change throughout your pregnancy.
